So... 5 things about Dadzilla...
1 - he lives in Regina now - they moved from Swan River in October. Wooohooo!
2 - his birthday was Christmas Day
3 - he haaaaaaaaaates Whitney Houston (ok, I'm sure this has lessened a bit, but when we were growing up, he really hated when we'd play her tapes :))
4 - he can speak a gazillion languages (Hungarian, German, Slovak, English fluently, can pick up French, Russian, you name it), and I've always been in awe of that.
5 - he hates cats almost as much as he hates Whitney Houston. In fact, if we ever get a girl cat, I'm gonna name her Whitney, because in dad's words "that cat can't sing either". Hah!!!

Okeyy... that wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

It's been a while...

Hey there,

Not sure if anyone still reads this, but thought I'd put up a short update anyway.

Dad's been out of the hospital for about 1.5 months now (as per my last post). In this time, he's graduated from shuffling around town with a walker to taking the dogs for walks unassisted. He's gone from being driven wherever he needed, to driving himself. His wounds are healing, and he's gaining back a lot of the weight (40 lbs +) he lost while in the hospital. Mom took a break and went to Regina last Wednesday, and dad drove down (with the dogs) and joined her there on Saturday. Getting away was good for all of them. I think they'll be happier once they make the move to Regina. No plans in the works yet, but y'never know - could happen at any time.

He's home!!!

We all got quite the surprise today. When mom went to see dad in the hospital this morning, he let her know that he was being released. They got home around 11:30 his time, and called me and Kim to let us know he was home. I just spoke to him for a minute, and he said he felt good, but weak. And that's totally understandable - the man has been in the hospital for how many weeks now? So now we really start with recovery - physio, some home care, etc.

I spoke to them just now, and they seem to be settling back in all right. Dad walked into a couple of stores to run errands today, and that wiped him out, but like he says, he will get stronger each day.

Welcome home, daddy :)

Just checkin' in..

I just spoke to dad for a bit. Seems to be doing all right. He's considering going through with the surgery to reverse the colostomy once he's fully healed (read: 6-8 months, depending on how the blood thinners work out). I can't believe he's considering surgery again, but hey - quality of life, right? I'm just scared of what could happen while he's in surgery. Urgh.

Other than that, he's doing ok. Mom brought him a chocolate shake today - true taste of heaven :) She's been going in a couple times a day to visit and play cribbage and just hang out with him. I told him I'd kick butt at Scrabble if I were closer, but that's not the kinda game we can play over the phone :)

Back in Swan River!

Well, dad didn't get transferred on friday as we'd expected, but he's there now :) I just got off the phone with him - he got in last night around 9:30. Said there were about as many shock absorbers in the back of the ambulance as there would've been in the back of a honeydew wagon (???). Not the smoothest ride, I guess. But at least he's in Swan now. He can even see the back yard (and hear the dogs, I'm sure!) from his window at the hosptial. So close, yet so far.

With the hospital being only 2 blocks from the house, it helps - mom can lead a bit more normal life. She doesn't have to spend all day at the hospital now, she can go and run some errands, then come back, etc. And no more emergency drives to Winnipeg (knock on wood) for a while. Or like, ever, we hope.

Homeward bound!

By this time Saturday, dad will be in the Swan River hospital. The transfer will most likely take place tomorrow, but it all depends on whether there's a bed there for him tomorrow or not. Mom heads back to Swan tomorrow morning, so she will be home when he gets to town.

Thank you all for your support and good wishes. It means a lot to all of us, and I believe they've helped dad get through a really rough time. As always, I'll keep y'all posted of any developments.

He could be where? By when?

Swan River, by Friday. It's not a guarantee, but it's what the doctors are saying is most likely. :D How wonderful that would be. Wow. We didn't even think it was a possibility. Mom and Ann are heading back to Winnipeg tomorrow, and Dad will most likely be transferred wherever on Thursday or Friday. I sooo don't want to get excited for this, but it'll be good news. Then, the stay in Swan might not be that long, as dad is getting better - his incisions just have to heal, etc. So, it's an exciting time... Once dad's home in Swan, and out of the hospital there'll be a lot of adjustments that mom and dad will have to make, but it'll work out. They can work on getting dad stronger, and work on getting OUT of Swan for good. Best news yet.
